INFO:

The Pitrisconi River is located in the heart of the Monte Nieddu massif, on the San Teodoro side. It is certainly one of the most enjoyable canyoning routes in Sardinia. With an overall difficulty rated PD (not very difficult), it is an ideal canyon for those who want to discover canyoning for the first time.

The calm and never turbulent waters of the Rio Pitrisconi make it perfect even for beginners looking for adrenaline and excitement. The only requirements are clear: you must not suffer from vertigo, you must know how to swim, and you should be in good physical condition. All you need to bring with you is a complete change of clothes, swimwear, packed snacks, 500 ml of bottled water, and shoes (trekking or running shoes) to be used in the canyon.

The Pitrisconi Canyon was first explored and later made famous by José Aneris, who wrote the first review in 2008 and equipped several rappels. The last re-equipment was carried out in 2017 as part of the “ProCanyon” project by AIC (Italian Canyoning Association).

Once you reach the Pitrisconi stazzo, in just 5 minutes you will arrive at the riverbed and be ready for the first small rappel of 5 meters, which leads to a beautiful natural pool about 4 meters deep. Here, it is possible to make several dives into crystal-clear water. After a short walk, you will reach a hanging pool with a 4-meter jump or a pleasant 3-meter slide that leads to the impressive 20-meter rappel.

This is the most vertical and adrenaline-filled rope descent of the entire canyon. With a water flow exceeding 200 liters per second, it is advisable to use a short cable traverse to reach the descent area. Once at the base of the spectacular waterfall, the aquatic route continues, sliding under a large boulder and reaching an emerald-colored natural pool where you can enjoy a 6-meter slide or a 5-meter jump.

After a few minutes, you will encounter another spectacular 13-meter rappel alongside a majestic waterfall. Once at the bottom, you can swim to the edge and reach a viewpoint that allows you to admire the “Pitriolu” pool in all its wild beauty.

During the summer, it is recommended to exit the canyon at this point, returning to the Pitrisconi stazzo in about 30 minutes. Continuing downstream, you can bypass a dangerous slide with a short climb and swim through a small natural pool. From here, the river becomes more linear, with no further descents—only progression along the riverbed.

After about one kilometer, you will reach the final natural pool via a 7-meter jump or an equally long slide. Shortly afterward, you arrive at the second exit point, from which you can leave the canyon and reach the Pitrisconi stazzo in about 1 hour via a steep path overlooking the entire valley.
